چکیده

The rate of learning patred<*dje6tive lists is unrelated to iatertriai intervals up to 2 mm. when lists are ttted at a 2:2«tec. rare, i.e., 2 sec. the stimulus aloae and 2 see for the stimulus and response appearing -together (t). With materials of tew meaaiagfultiess the data ake somewhat contradictory. la one study Hovlaad (4) found that a 2-mie. rest alter each trial resulted iu no faster learning than did a 6-aec. rest for paired nonsense syllables, Is a subsequent study (S) however, the same conditions did produes more rapid teaming with spaced practice than with massed. Furthermore, the differences were magaiied if pairs were presented at a lil-sec. rate. Ho resolution of these conflicttag data is available. Early studies by Hovland (e.g., 3) have consistently shown that in sens! learning distributed pi acrice facilitates acquisition. Previously in his writ*

Studies of distributed practice. X. The influence of intralist similarity on learning and retention of serial adjective lists.

^*3^The major purpo»e of this study was nft discover the influence of intraliit similarity and intertrial interval on retention of serial adjectives. With regard to retention as a function of intralist similarity, several studies (4, 6, 7, 8) indicate that while intralist similarity may influence rate of learning, it has no influence on recall taken 24 hr. following learning. As yet, however, n...

Speech and nonspeech sequence skill learning in adults who stutter.

UNLABELLED Two studies compared the speech and nonspeech sequence skill learning of nine persons who stutter (PWS) and nine matched fluent speakers (PNS). Sequence skill learning was defined as a continuing process of stable improvement in speed and/or accuracy of sequencing performance over practice and was measured by comparing PWS's and PNS's performance curves of accuracy, reaction time, an...

Can the superior learnability of meaningful and pleasant words be transferred to nonsense syllables?

The Ss in 2 experiments fi rst learned a PA list of words as responses to nonsense syllables. In 1 condition the words differed in meaningfulness (M) and in the other condition the words differed in pleasantness (PL). Next, Ss learned a 2nd PA list of the same syllables as responses to numbers. High-M words were learned faster than low-M words, but did not transfer either this difference in lea...

Studies of distributed practice. XI. An attempt to resolve conflicting facts on retention of serial nonsense lists.

CO In 1940 Hcvlsnd (3) published a it in which retention of serial nonsense lists was measured after 2 min., 10 min., and 24 hr. In one case lists were learned by biassed practice (6-sec. intertrial interval) and in another by distributed practice (2min. intertrial interval). The results clearly showed that retention as measured by both recall and releaming was better following distributed prac...
